James W. Hahn, 73, of Somerset, passed on February 19, 2014. Born October 11, 1940 in Meyersdale, he is a son of the late Allen and Viola (Fuller) Hahn. He is also preceded in death by his brother Charles Hahn; and sisters Ruth Bassett and Betty Lowstetler. Jim is survived by his sons Steven Hahn and Jeffrey Hahn and wife Gwendolyn (Long); their mother Mary Katherine Hahn; grandson Kurt Hahn and fiance Meaghan; sister Margaret Dietle and husband Ralph, all of Meyersdale; and special friend Pat Maust of Stoystown. Upon graduation from Meyersdale High School, Jim worked at Shipley Hardware before joining the US Army, where he served with the Military Police until his discharge in 1965. He remained in the National Guard until 1981. He became a police officer in Meyersdale Borough in 1966 before joining the Somerset Borough Police Department in 1970 where he remained until his retirement in 2005. Jim then joined the staff at Miller Funeral Home and Crematory in Somerset and also was a deputy coroner for Somerset County until his passing. He was a former president, vice president, and current secretary of the Sheridan Caton Memorial Lodge of the Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge #98, where he specialized in labor negotiations and traveled across the country to labor seminars. He was a former Meyersdale Volunteer Fireman and a member of the Meyersdale American Legion. Jim was an avid bowler and motorcycle rider and was a member of the Blue Knights Police Motorcycle Club. He was also a member of the Vietnam Veteran's of America Chapter 172 in Cumberland, MD.
